Glossary
Centre
A centre is where work happens — a shed, machine, bench, or crew. Centres have a daily capacity (hours/day) and are the planning buckets you see in Centre Schedule and Capacity Planning.
Example: Cutting Shed (16h/day) with workstations like CNC Router 1 and Panel Saw.
Workstation
A workstation is the specific station a task is assigned to. Workstations roll up into centres.
Example: CNC Router 1 is a workstation mapped to the Cutting Shed centre.
For manual scheduling, tasks need a workstation (mapped to a centre) to show up on Centre Schedule.
Job
The customer job you're delivering (typically planned around a target/install date).
Outcome unconfirmed
A neutral job-health label: the recorded installation date has passed and Cabneo does not know the outcome. It does not mean the job is completed or safe. The saved date stays visible as Install date passed. A past target with critical material evidence still shows At Risk, with its material reason; separately recorded warnings remain visible.
Task
A unit of work. Tasks can be scheduled to a day, assigned to a workstation (which determines the centre), and tracked through statuses.
Production task
Hands-on work tasks that move the job forward on the floor.
Stage
A fixed type of work. Cabneo uses workshop stages such as Cutting and Assembly, and installation stages such as Site Preparation and Base Units.
Step
Optional reusable detail inside a task: instructions, checks, photo requirements, or training guidance. Steps do not decide whether the task exists.
Create Job
A fast job intake flow designed for shops that estimate in CAD + spreadsheets, then enter rough hours in Cabneo.
Create Job saves the job, stores the labour estimate, and creates draft planning tasks from those labour estimate buckets, with no scheduled day assigned.
Backlog (draft tasks)
In this flow, "backlog" means draft tasks exist but are still unscheduled (no scheduled day).
You schedule them later from Job Management (Schedule tasks), Centre Schedule, or Triage.
Labour Estimate Buckets
The "rough hours" buckets in Create Job (Machining, Edging, Assembly, Install).
Finish by
The question the Job Management Schedule tasks review answers: can this job still make its date? Cabneo plans the job's unscheduled labour-estimate stages backwards from its delivery/install dates, then — if that alone cannot reach the date within capacity — checks whether moving eligible work on other jobs makes room. There is no intent or engine to choose: it is one review, and it previews the result before anything is saved.
Planning back from
The deadline the review plans against, shown at the top of the Schedule tasks review and editable there in every outcome. It is the job's Installation date (see Install anchor), not a separate scheduling field.
Install anchor
The date the Install stage starts under Finish by: the job's Installation date. A job has one Installation date. An installation key date adds booking detail to it — status (tentative or booked), time, duration, location — and cannot carry a competing date; changing either surface changes the same date. A confirmed delivery key date is a separate, earlier constraint on workshop work.
Required moves
The section of the Schedule tasks review listing changes to jobs other than the one you opened it for, grouped under the count of jobs affected. Each row names the task, the date it holds now, and the date it would hold. Required moves are not optional extras: the placements depend on one another, so they are applied together with the rest of the plan or not at all.
Two rules bound them. Other jobs only ever move later — never earlier, and never started early. And no proposed date pushes a job past its own recorded installation or delivery date; a job with no recorded date, or with stage work Cabneo cannot see, is ineligible to move at all rather than treated as having spare time.
This is a bound on the dates Cabneo proposes, not a claim about execution. It keeps a plan inside the commitments you have recorded; it cannot promise the work is finished by them.
Review outcome
The verdict line at the top of a Schedule tasks review. It is written in plain language rather than scored: the plan may fit within capacity, fit only by moving work on a stated number of other jobs, come back a stated number of hours over capacity in a named centre on a named day, or find no plan inside the search rules — with the conflict that decided it named. No outcome claims something is impossible.
These grade a proposal you have not accepted. Available, Tight, At capacity and Overbooked describe centre-days on your live schedule, and Overbooked still means only "more than 100% committed load".
Capacity details
The collapsed disclosure under a Schedule tasks review holding the arithmetic behind the verdict: every centre and day the plan touches, the hours before and after, out of that centre's configured capacity.
Schedule over capacity
What the review's action button becomes when you tick Keep <date> by going over capacity. That checkbox previews the same deadline without moving other jobs, and the review states the shortage — the hours, the centre, the day. Cabneo never raises a centre's configured capacity to make a plan look feasible and never assumes those hours are staffed; the affected days stay visibly Overbooked until you change the work or the capacity. The checkbox is disabled when overbooking cannot help — overlapping work cannot create a working day that does not exist.
Try keeping this date
The temporary requirement offered on a required move's row popover. It searches again with that one date held. It is a question rather than a promise: if no alternative plan is found, the original proposal stays applicable and the failed requirement is discarded, so nothing needs undoing. It writes no lock, and Cancel discards it.
Schedule lock
An explicit, durable "leave this date alone" on a task, set from the task's own menu and shown on the task row. A locked task is excluded from the planner. The lock restricts the planner, not the owner: manual rescheduling, dispatch, Centre Schedule drag and status changes all still work on a locked task, and none of them set or clear the lock.
Hard-cap placement
When a stage cannot fit under the 90% soft buffer but can still fit within daily capacity (<= 100%), Cabneo can place it with an overbook warning. This rule belongs to the placement finder used by Create Job and Change install date; the Schedule tasks review reports capacity as the arithmetic under Capacity details instead.
Auto-span
When a stage is larger than one day of centre capacity, Cabneo can schedule it across multiple days by setting both scheduled_date and scheduled_end_date. The stage's hours are shared across the working days in that range only; closed days carry none of the load.
Centre Schedule
The visual calendar for scheduling tasks across centres. Supports month and week views, drag-and-drop scheduling, and quick crew assignment from an event popover. Clicking empty space in a day opens Run Sheet for that date. In All Centres, that becomes the all-centres Run Sheet for the selected day. Dispatch remains available as a secondary crew/day surface. Centre Schedule is the primary scheduling surface for manual workflows.
Dispatch
The secondary crew/day planning surface for assigned work. Dispatch answers "who is doing this, and when?" after Run Sheet and Centre Schedule answer "what is planned where, and on which day?"
Centre-scheduled work
Assigned work that is scheduled to a day and mapped to an active centre through its workstation. Centre Schedule crew filters show this subset only.
If a task is assigned to a worker but has no scheduled day, no workstation, or a workstation outside an active centre, it will not appear in the Centre Schedule crew lens.
Capacity Planning
The view that shows how booked each centre is across days, so you can spot overload early.
Committed day bars/heatmap are scheduled-only. Unscheduled demand is shown separately.
Worker Workload
A supervisor view for one crew member's full assigned plate: today, this week, and upcoming weeks. Use it when you need to see assigned work that may not yet be centre-scheduled.
Floor
The main navigation label for the Run Sheet execution surface. Floor takes you to the centre/day work view without making the nav wrap; the page itself remains Run Sheet.
Run Sheet
A date-based execution surface that shows the tasks driving booked hours, grouped by job. Run Sheet can open as a specific centre/day drill-down or as an all-centres day scan.
Run Sheet rows are scheduled-only execution truth. In the main app navigation, this surface is labelled Floor for compact wayfinding.
Workshop List
The task find-and-update view in Workshop. Use it to search/filter tasks across dates, open task details from a row, and make quick updates (including one-click complete for open work).
In the default Open view, Cabneo shows pending, in-progress, and on-hold tasks. List is not the execution queue. Run Sheet remains the centre/day execution truth.
Unscheduled demand
Open tasks with estimated time that are not yet assigned to a day. Shown separately from committed capacity.
Unmapped demand
Unscheduled demand that cannot roll up to a centre because workstation/centre mapping is missing.
Target date
The job's install or commitment date — the customer-facing date the workshop plan is organised around.
Change install date
A job-level operation to move the target/install date. Cabneo first shows an advisory calendar, then a preview of affected tasks and capacity warnings. On confirm, eligible tasks shift by working days.
Readiness gates
Per-job truth flags — materials ready, client confirmed, site ready — that let you track whether a job is actually ready to proceed. Toggling a gate logs a schedule change for auditability.
Schedule Changes
A real-time feed on the owner dashboard showing recent install-date changes and readiness gate changes (last 24 hours), so you can see why dates moved.
Triage
The scheduling inbox for work that needs a date decision (unscheduled or slipped).
Unavailable (machine or person)
A dated period when a workstation or a crew member cannot be used. All-day, with a first and a last day — Cabneo does not model half days or open-ended absences.
Recording it does not deactivate the resource. Deactivating a workstation means "this machine is gone"; marking it unavailable means "it is back on Thursday".
Centre hours lost
When someone is away, the question Cabneo asks is how many centre hours are lost each working day — not how long that person works, which Cabneo does not know. Two people each taking four hours out of a 16h centre leave 8h.
Blank means unknown, which is not the same as zero: an unknown effect stops Cabneo claiming everything is fine. Entering 0 means "centre hours unchanged" — cover is arranged, or the centre is limited by its machines rather than its people.
Remaining work
The hours you say are left on a task that was interrupted or has run past its dates. It is your figure, not a calculation: Cabneo will not infer it from elapsed time, a percentage, or a timer.
Confirming it does not complete the task, change its status, or alter its labour estimate. A task Cabneo has replanned preserves its historical planned load, which is not evidence of work performed. Its remaining work dates are the part that moves.
Recover the week
One review of everything a machine outage or an absence has affected, across all the jobs it touched. Confirming remaining hours saves planning inputs. The review shows proposed dates and hours; scheduled allocations change only when you apply the plan. See Capacity Planning & Floor.
